Overby panel examines media portrayals of minority women

Award-winning journalist and scholar Imani Cheers visited the Overby Center on Wednesday, September 5, to participate in a panel discussion of media portraits of minority women.

Panel members also included assistant professor of history Deirdre Cooper Owens, who teaches about slavery, race, gender and the history of medicine, and associate professor Kirk Johnson, another Ole Miss teacher who has conducted research about news images of African Americans. Mark Dolan, an associate professor of journalism who teaches and writes about the black press, moderated.
