Kristen Swain regularly teaches courses in media ethics and theory, public opinion and reporting. Her research specialization is science communication with an emphasis on health communication, informal science education, crisis communication and risk framing in news coverage of science and risk. Her recent publications examined news coverage of the anthrax attacks, environmental justice, African AIDS, sea-level rise and roles of black churches in disease prevention. Swain has a Ph.D. from the University of Florida, an M.A. from the University of Alabama and a B.A. from Ole Miss.
