Public Relations Communications Specialist, Hinds Community College

The Public Relations communications specialist is a writer who must be skilled in various types of writing, including news, features, blogs and web content.  The specialist will work to keep the public informed, through written communications for print and broadcast media and for the Hinds website, about policies, activities, projects and plans of Hinds Community College.  The communications specialist will attend college events, gather data, research material, conduct interviews and write news releases, feature articles, people profiles, public service announcements, material for special publications, assist with scripts for audio-visual productions and any other writing as needed, with an emphasis on news and feature writing.  This employee will assign photography and news video as needed to complete the above projects through the college photographers or multimedia specialist.  As part of writing responsibilities, the communications specialist will use Associated Press style to rewrite and edit materials including news releases, publications, web content and scripts as needed or assigned.  Other capabilities, such as photography or graphics design, are a plus but not essential to the functions of the communications specialist.
Mandatory: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in public relations, journalism, communications, new media or a directly related field, and one (1) year of directly related experience; proficiency in utilizing Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn.
Desirable: A master’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in public relations, journalism, communications, new media or a directly related field and a minimum of one (1) year of directly related experience; OR at least 18 graduate hours in journalism-related field and experience in student publications. Proficiency in utilizing WordPress for blogging; photography, video or graphic design experience utilizing Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign and Photoshop.

Executive Producer of Local Content, New Age Media of Tennessee

New Age Media of Tennessee, LLC, home to FOX61, The CW Chattanooga, My Network TV Chattanooga and Me TV Chattanooga is looking for an executive producer of local content to expand the station’s long format programming for new and existing shows. Candidate will produce segments for current shows such as The Fifth Quarter, High School Rivalries, and long format documentary style projects. Candidate must have a minimum of 5 years working in television broadcasting, specifically with local program production. Candidate should be self-motivated, organized, and demonstrate strong ability to work independently, and must be able to meet deadlines.

Daily work varies from project to project, but will consist of the following:

  • Initiate new programming ideas for local content,
  • Produce long and short format content for broadcast, client use, and web,
  • Work with editors and photographers to shoot and edit final product, experience editing and photography are required.
  • Assist Creative Services team with promotional events and all productions.

Job Specifics:

  • Experience with live television productions is preferred.
  • Candidates must have a valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance.
  • Some weeknight and weekend work is required. Hours for work may vary depending on project; candidates should be flexible for this reason.

Lifestyles Editor, Greenwood Commonwealth

The Greenwood Commonwealth, a six-day, 6,200-circulation newspaper located in the Mississippi Delta, is looking for an energetic, creative person to be its Lifestyles Editor.
The Commonwealth publishes Monday through Friday afternoons and Sunday morning. It has been judged the best small daily in Mississippi 10 out of the last 12 years.
The Lifestyles Editor is responsible for the content and layout of one page each weekday and the six-page Lifestyles section that runs each Sunday. This section includes wedding and birth announcements, columns from various contributors, photos from recent events and a local section-front feature story. The editor will also contribute other lifestyles-related stories for the paper as needed and write for our quarterly glossy magazine, Leflore Illustrated. For the winter edition of the magazine, which has a wedding focus, the Lifestyles Editor is responsible for selling, writing and laying out the wedding announcements.
This person must be a self-starter who is talented at writing, photography and design. Previous experience with Quark Xpress or Adobe InDesign is helpful.
The current Lifestyles Editor has been promoted to another position with a sister newspaper in our company, Emmerich Newspapers.
The Commonwealth is a community paper, so applicants should be interested in getting to know and being an active part of this community. Greenwood is a great place to live and start your journalism career. Job description: 

Forestry Suppliers is a direct mail company serving many markers, including science education. This position will exhibit products and information at trade shows, search for new products, stay up to date on competitors, and contribute to published media and social media postings.

This position will report to the Marketing Manager. This position is a vital and unique role within the company and you will be working with other members of the marketing team (technical specialists, creative, etc.).

Trade Shows:

Represent Forestry Suppliers at various trade shows each year across the country. Assist in setting up the schedule for shows and be the lead person in preparing for each show. Interact with customers and prospects. Identify new product ideas by visiting with vendors and exhibitors. Identify and follow up on contract sales ideas. Prepare written summary report for office distribution upon return from shows.

New Products:

Be responsible for products on assigned pages of our catalog and our website using resources available (trade shows, competitor catalogs/web sites, trade magazines, etc.). Identify sources of product ideas an pursue them with current and new vendors. Present and add new products for availability on web site and print catalog.

Competition:

Keep an active file on all competitors and identify product, marketing, and pricing opportunities for inclusion in company offering. Ensure our pricing is competitive and product offerings are innovative and leading edge.

Content Development:

Identify and work with internal and external resources to generate ideas for written publications produced by Forestry Suppliers (monthly emails and bi-annual electronic magazines and support our Science Scene e-newsletter and app with science education related topics). Contribute to Science Scene Facebook and other social media postings. This position is responsible for preparing preliminary written drafts for our internal Creative team.

Location:

The position is located in Jackson, Mississippi and involves some travel. Normal working hours are Monday-Friday, 8 A.M. to 5 P.M., plus additional hours as needed. Competitive salary with excellent benefits with a long-time stable company.
