The Public Relations communications specialist is a writer who must be skilled in various types of writing, including news, features, blogs and web content.  The specialist will work to keep the public informed, through written communications for print and broadcast media and for the Hinds website, about policies, activities, projects and plans of Hinds Community College.  The communications specialist will attend college events, gather data, research material, conduct interviews and write news releases, feature articles, people profiles, public service announcements, material for special publications, assist with scripts for audio-visual productions and any other writing as needed, with an emphasis on news and feature writing.  This employee will assign photography and news video as needed to complete the above projects through the college photographers or multimedia specialist.  As part of writing responsibilities, the communications specialist will use Associated Press style to rewrite and edit materials including news releases, publications, web content and scripts as needed or assigned.  Other capabilities, such as photography or graphics design, are a plus but not essential to the functions of the communications specialist.
Mandatory: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in public relations, journalism, communications, new media or a directly related field, and one (1) year of directly related experience; proficiency in utilizing Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn.
Desirable: A master’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in public relations, journalism, communications, new media or a directly related field and a minimum of one (1) year of directly related experience; OR at least 18 graduate hours in journalism-related field and experience in student publications. Proficiency in utilizing WordPress for blogging; photography, video or graphic design experience utilizing Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign and Photoshop.

Executive Producer of Local Content, New Age Media of Tennessee

New Age Media of Tennessee, LLC, home to FOX61, The CW Chattanooga, My Network TV Chattanooga and Me TV Chattanooga is looking for an executive producer of local content to expand the station’s long format programming for new and existing shows. Candidate will produce segments for current shows such as The Fifth Quarter, High School Rivalries, and long format documentary style projects. Candidate must have a minimum of 5 years working in television broadcasting, specifically with local program production. Candidate should be self-motivated, organized, and demonstrate strong ability to work independently, and must be able to meet deadlines.

Daily work varies from project to project, but will consist of the following:

  • Initiate new programming ideas for local content,
  • Produce long and short format content for broadcast, client use, and web,
  • Work with editors and photographers to shoot and edit final product, experience editing and photography are required.
  • Assist Creative Services team with promotional events and all productions.

Job Specifics:

  • Experience with live television productions is preferred.
  • Candidates must have a valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance.
  • Some weeknight and weekend work is required. Hours for work may vary depending on project; candidates should be flexible for this reason.
